Strijp-T area getting better and better each year. It feels so cozy to walk between these buildings and yards that used to be Philips property. With the renovation of the TQ building, Eindhoven has a new innovative hotspot. During DDW19 doors are more open so you can visit some really interesting locations with the top view of the city.
Filter Family – Studiolonk – i really liked this one – What if … they design living spaces according to the needs of 2030. What would we need? Noice reduction, the balance between social interaction and privacy. By moving panels, you influence on the available space for yourself and for others. I also tried this huge sofa. When you leave small space for yourself it is nice in terms of noise but it feels a bit small and narrow.
If you love chairs and Gerrit Rietveld come here.
One of the key figures in the Dutch design world is Gerrit Rietveld. His ideas are a source of inspiration, as can be seen in the exhibition RIETVELD RE_NEWED Design Factory, WOTH Wonderful Things magazine and designer Aart van Asseldonk act as curator here. In this exhibition the work of contemporary designers is shown in the context of Rietveld. His pieces of furniture are more than just utilitarian objects and express a vision of society, materials and social views. This makes him the first conceptual designer who was able to come up with something radically new. Today’s designers each respond to this vision in their own way.

Designers were creating different objects under one common idea, using the same colors and shapes to match the concept of Tarkett. I liked a speaker that was attached to a wall, swaying up or down, you can change the sound volume.
Atelier van Asseldonk was asked to integrate a couple of specially designed objects into the building. A triptych consisting of an XXL variant of the iconic Trouble Light, The Wave Reflector, and the Objectarium on the top floor. Each installation tells something about the history of the TQ building in its own abstract way.
(1,5) The ‘Wave Reflector’ is an object with the function of visually rearranging the space around the object. It offers the opportunity to experience the surroundings in another way by capturing light and other kind of waves from space and reflecting them back to the spectator in a rearranged way.
Drivers of Change – The technology is often inside, behind the design and its not the 1st eye-catcher. But it is becoming a part of our environment and ourself. This year TU/e has a lot to offer, they are really engaged in designing our future
(1,2) with Japanese art of paper folding ‘origami’ you can simply create layered, complex 3D designs. Flexibility and smart geometry make them very quick to fold and unfold, easy to transport, but simple to secure too. This makes them ideal for creating temporary spaces and a wide range of other applications in the built environment.
(3) GEM tower – Foldable sustainable energy solution (on solar and wind energy) for festivals (21m) Instead of diesel generators that are usually used for large public events
(1) Student team InMotion envisions a future in which the electric car can be recharged as quick as a car powered by fossil fuels can be refueled. They realize this by developing a revolutionary water-cooled battery pack that can be recharged several times faster than the electric car of today
(2) Lightyear One Ultra efficient electric family car – on the market within 2 years
(1) 1st solar energy family car (max. speed 130 km/h and a range of 1000 km on a sunny day)
(2) 1st biomaterial car and cyclical car – build from used material “save, reuse and recycle”
(1) pavilion constructed from biocomposite materials
(2) In this project floating pavilions are only made from recycled plastic are presented. These future shelters as we gonna suffer from rising sea levels (by 3D printing)
