At Strijp-R, Piet Hein Eek is showing his new collection and interesting exhibitions of other designers are organised throughout the building, that many years ago was a Philips factory.
In 1990 Piet Hein Eek graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven. He opened his first company in 1992. For Eek, it is important to have an influence on the whole process – from drawing to a final product. This proved to be an exceptional way of producing that became recognised internationally as it was and is still rare that furniture is designed and produced under the same roof.
On one of the floors, you can find Waste art expo – all projects are from waste materials.

These chairs are made from paper. Based on cardboard, previously used to be packaging and paper glued together by layers. He started from paper prototyping and ended up with the philosophy way of thinking about why a chair should live longer than his owner. Over the years, the chair takes the form of the owner and follows his habits, it only becomes more beautiful, causes affection, and gains personal value.
Victor de Bie – Below the surface – As a visual artist Victor creates his own universe by paintings, drawings and objects.
❞ The table with eight chairs represents the one we all sat around and symbolizes family. At the head of the table, two embracing armchairs representing my parents. At the table, we identify ourselves through others and we are able to explore and recognize ourselves, revealing many secrets hidden from under the surface. The family as an introspective mirror, hiding the unknown. The mouth-blown vase represents a fish that gasps for air and symbolizes my desire for freedom. The small table, named after my youngest brother Wiglius, is personally important to me because it is one of the first steps towards three-dimensional and applied work. Initially, it was a painting (2017), later I cut out the fish and turned it into a table.
