Get to know the city
Eindhoven in faces
We feel more connected, safe and comfortable when we are aware: What is this place? Who is this person? What is going on?
I was thinking about that. Before we used to live not in so big cities. We knew who is a milkman or a baker. Now we just enter in a shop, buy what we need and leave. We don’t know who is behind the scene. We are less connected.
After I moved to Eindhoven, I notice that in this new place I don’t know anything. Neither I know people I also don’t know what are the city buildings about. This year I started to do city walks for Eindhoven visitors and expats and end up learning so much about the city. It made me feel more at home. I was even regretting that I didn’t discover it 5 years ago when I just moved.
I realised that of course, we all had more information about our native cities. Some people we knew in person, about others we have heard or read. Usually first years in the Netherlands we are not speaking dutch. Also, you need to get quite fluent in a local language and meet many people to start to feel that you understand what is happening around.
Social life
Another topic: to feel good it is advised to get friends in a new place. How do we search? We go to some events, networking meetings, at work. A hobby, a workshop or sport can also bring some contacts. It’s also can be that we have friends but not with similar interests. Like on a playground, Ok, you are 5 years old and this boy as well, so go and play together. But it’s not enough. We need somehow to find people among locals or internationals who share the same passion that we have. It’s so much joy and support in these relationships. But how?
Interviews
I do photography and I like to meet new people. I adore deep conversations (maybe because I suck in small talks). So I decided to create a series of interviews with entrepreneurs and creatives of Eindhoven. Each interview will be about a person’s life, passion, interest and more. I want you to find ideas and stories to which you can relate. I want you to feel like to continue a conversation and reach each other for real life heart-to-heart dialogues. I hope these interviews will make you find some interesting individuals and projects. Finally, get to know the city. Create a community, feel included. I want you to finally say: “I belong!”
I belong to this city!
